Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel that was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steels. “Duplex” describes a family of stainless steels that are neither fully austenitic, like 304 stainless, nor purely ferritic, like 430 stainless. The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the work horse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex family of stainless steels.
A Duplex 2205 eccentric reducers manufactured at INSTINOX is a fitting used in piping systems between two pipes of different diameters. They are used where the diameter of the pipe on the upstream side of the fitting (i.e. where flow is coming from) is larger than the downstream side. Unlike a eccentric reducer, which resembles a cone, eccentric reducers have an edge that is parallel to the connecting pipe. This parallel edge results in the two pipes having offset center lines. The same fitting can be used in reverse as an eccentric increaser/expander.
Horizontal liquid reducers are always eccentric, top flat (unless on control set, same as PV, TV, HV, LV) or (pipe rack), which prevents the build up of air bubbles in the system. Eccentric reducers are used at the suction side of pumps to ensure air does not accumulate in the pipe. The gradual accumulation of air in a eccentric reducer could result in a large bubble that could eventually cause the pump to stall or cause cavitation when drawn into the pump.

Reducers connect pipes of different sizes. They are available in eccentric or eccentric. One connecting end of the reducer is larger than the other. Pipe reducers often have male threads on one end and female threads on the other. Reducers come in a wide variety of materials, sizes and types, designed to suit specific applications.
Pipelines are not of uniform size and there is requirement of reducing or expanding the lines depending on process requirement or availability of material. Here comes the importance of a special pipe fitting called Reducers.

Reducers are most extensively used in piping industry to reduce or expand the straight part of run pipe.

Basically, reducers are available in two styles:

DUPLEX 2205 Concentric Reducers
In this type of reducers area reduction is concentric and center line of the pipe on bigger end and smaller end remains same. The reduction of the pipe size is achieved by decreasing the diameter of the fitting at a constant rate over a specified length, maintaining symmetry around the fitting. These styles are normally used for vertical lines.

DUPLEX 2205 Eccentric Reducers
In this style of reducer there is an offset in between the center lines of bigger end and center line of smaller end. This offset or eccentricity will maintain a flat side either on top or on bottom side. The reduction of the pipe size is achieved by decreasing the diameter of the fitting at a constant rate over a specified length, maintaining one side of the fitting horizontally.
