ABOUT HASTELLOYAND HASTELLOY ELBOW
Hastelloy, is applied as the prefix name to more than twenty different highly corrosion resistant metal alloys produced by Haynes International, Inc. These superalloys, or high performance alloys, developed by Haynes International, are nickel-based steel alloys that exhibit traits that include high resistance to uniform attack, localized corrosion/oxidation resistance, stress corrosion cracking resistance and ease of welding and fabrication.
An HASTELLOY elbow is a pipe fitting which is used as a connection between two lengths of pipe to produce a change in direction of flow in the pipe, mainly in 90°, 45° or 180°. Elbows are also commonly referred as bends and are available in different range of materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, monel, Hastelloy, hastelloy etc.
KINDS OF ELBOWS:
Following are the two kinds of elbows:
LONG RADIUS ELBOWS ( LR ELBOWS )
45° elbows are typically made as long radius elbows.
The long radius elbows have a center to end distance i.e. 1.5 times the NPS in inches ( R = 1.5D). These types of elbows are used when space is available and flow is more critical.
SHORT RADIUS ELBOWS ( SR ELBOWS )
90° elbows are typically made as short radius elbows.
The short radius elbows is equal to the NPS in inches. These types of elbows are generally used in tight areas.
At INSTINOX, the ends maybe machined for butt welding, threaded (usually female ) or socketed etc. When the two ends differ in size, the fitting is called reducing elbow or a reducer elbow.

HASTELLOY BENDS AND BENDING
Like many other fabrication methods for stainless steel, bending can be done using the same equipment used to bend other metals. A difference is that working hardening rates may mean a need for more rigid equipment and higher power levels. Equally, equipment capacity will be much lower than for Carbon steels.
Round bar, flat bar, sheet and plate can be bent using a press brake, bending machine or ring-rolling. Due to work hardening, bending should be done quickly. Some over-bending will be required to counteract spring-back of the bend. The inside bend radius should not be smaller than the thickness of the material being bent.
Tube bending is often done for architectural and other applications. Bending of stainless tube can be difficult unless done by persons experienced in the field. Rotary bending and hydraulic press bending can both be employed to bend HASTELLOYtube.
Centre line bend radii should not be smaller than twice the tube diameter.
